This class meets the DODD mandatory training requirements for both initial orientation and annual renewals of Direct Support Professionals.
Students successfully completing the course will receive certificates verifying completion of training in the following topics:
- Empathy-based care
- Role of a direct support professional including NADSP code of ethics
- Rights of individuals set forth in section 5123.62 of the revised code
- Implementation of individual service plans and service outcomes
- Recognizing and reporting MUIs and UIs
- Universal precautions for infection control
- Person-centered planning and provision of services
- Facilitating community participation and integration
- Provisions of rule 5123-17-02 relevant to the DSP’s duties including a review of health and
- Welfare alerts issued by the department
- Empathy-based care
Students will receive an additional certificate verifying 3 hours of the mandatory CEU’s required by the department (DODD). These CEU hours are also approved for the competency based and longevity add on.

Speaker: Deb Easley is the Director of The Academy. Since 1998 she has also worked for LADD, Inc., serving in several Program Management roles. Deb’s areas of expertise include teaching, curriculum writing and supervisor development.
Continuing Education: Continuing Education: 7.5 total hours of DODD-approved continuing education provided, including 3 hours of competency-based and longevity add-on.
