SUMMARY:Behavior Support: Crisis Intervention and De-escalation
DESCRIPTION:Description: Crisis Intervention and De-Escalation training is a full-day class that utilizes a combination of PowerPoint presentations\, videos and classroom activities to educate staff on safe\, appropriate ways to support people in crisis.   The class maintains a human approach that is grounded in dignity and respect.  While providing specific tools for the staff toolbox\, it will also increase self-awareness and address the importance of self-care.  Students will receive a certificate verifying 7 CEU hours\, approved for the competency based and longevity add on.   \n\nRelationships:  This course will explore developing/maintaining relationships\, & key components of a healthy relationship.  Staff will use Maslow’s Hierarchy & Domains of Safety to identify unmet needs and provide “felt” safety of people they support.  \nCommunication – The class will explore the role of communication in supporting the individuals we serve.  The training will define roles and methods of communication\, and the importance of authentic communication. Non-verbal communication and visual supports will also be addressed\, as well as concepts of empathy\, reflection and active listening.\nConflict and Crisis – Students will learn about the human stress response and why people respond the way they do in a crisis.  A crisis cycle model will be provided\, with staff responses to each step in the model.  Specific non-physical\, de-escalation techniques will be provided to help people calm and feel safe.\nVicarious Trauma – Awareness of trauma informed care continues to grow\, as does its role in the workplace.  This training will educate students on the characteristics and risks of vicarious trauma.  Training will include tools and concepts to mitigate/reduce the effects of vicarious trauma\, and how to promote resilience within themselves. \n\nFee:  Free!\n \nSpeaker:  T. SUMMARY:Mandatory Orientation and Annual Provider Certification Training
DESCRIPTION:This class meets the DODD mandatory training requirements for both initial orientation and annual renewals of Direct Support Professionals.  \nStudents successfully completing the course will receive certificates verifying completion of training in the following topics: \n\nEmpathy-based care\nRole of a direct support professional including NADSP code of ethics\nRights of individuals set forth in section 5123.62 of the revised code\nImplementation of individual service plans and service outcomes\nRecognizing and reporting MUIs and UIs\nUniversal precautions for infection control\nPerson-centered planning and provision of services\nFacilitating community participation and integration\nProvisions of rule 5123-17-02 relevant to the DSP’s duties including a review of health and\nWelfare alerts issued by the department\nEmpathy-based care\n\nStudents will receive an additional certificate verifying 3 hours of the mandatory CEU’s required by the department (DODD).
